Life Cycle is a small, energetic, innovative and committed Bristol-based charity that is transforming lives through cycling.
Many people take cycling for granted – they can just hop on a bike and roll down the road whenever they like. But for many others it just isn’t that simple. That’s where Life Cycle comes in; we want to take the joys and benefits of cycling and bikes to everyone:
"After losing my sight in a horrific car crash I never though I'd be able to ride a bike. It's so lovely to feel the wind in your face and the sunshine when its about. Come rain, come shine it is just a great feeling to be out in the fresh air and doing something enjoyable and healthy for oneself, even if we do stop at a pub for lunch!" - Jenny
We give blind and visually impaired people the chance to come cycling with us on tandem bicycles. We work with disadvantaged young people and isolated older people living in Bristol’s most deprived communities. We also work with individuals recovering from mental health issues, helping them to get out, take exercise and re-connect with the outside world:
“It was absolutely wonderful, I can’t remember the last time I was so happy” - Rona.
Life Cycle also runs Bristol’s biggest bicycle recycling scheme, working with inmates at HMP Bristol to keep old bikes out of landfill and to teach inmates employable skills they can utilise on their release.
However, to our projects going we need your help!
- £6 could pay for new brake pads at a bike being recycled at Bristol Prison
- £25 could pay for a cycling lesson to give an individual suffering from anxiety and panic attacks the confidence to cycle independently
- £50 could pay to service one of our tandems used to take blind and visually impaired people cycling
Please donate generously – and don’t forget to Gift Aid!
