Royal Marsden South Downs Trekathon · 10 July 2021 ·
On the 10th July I’ll be walking 26 miles
across the South Downs to raise money for The Royal Marsden; a hospital close
to my heart & in memory of a wonderful man.
As some of you may know, my cousin’s partner Rob & close friend, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer after attending the doctor with a sore abdomen the week before Christmas 2020. Sadly after the briefest of battles, Rob passed away on the 30th January ,aged 32. Rob was a fantastic human being, always laughing & making others laugh and with a big passion for the outdoors – so much so he asked that we all enter the sea after his funeral in early March this year!
This trek was one he’d always talked about doing, so 11 of us will be doing it in his honour. Starting out in Lewes, this trek will tackle some fairly stiff climbs and descents before reaching the breath taking final stretch over the white chalk cliffs of Seven Sisters, finishing at Beachy Head.
The Royal Marsden looked after Rob & his fiancé Sian superbly during his last days; all whilst dealing with a global pandemic. No words can describe what their help, support & kindness meant to Sian & Rob during this time & I hope that none of you ever have to find out.
Please donate anything possible; every penny will go towards such a worthy cause.
