Naomi to Kenya

Climbing Pen y Fan · 17 January 2013
Hello, my name is Naomi Robson, I am 10 Years old and I live in Thornbury. This year I am going on a trip to Kenya, in Africa, with my mum Carey.
We will be part of a team visiting a school called SpurgeonsAcademy which is in Kibera, one of East Africa’s largest Slums. There are around 420 children in the school, many are orphaned. Helping children in Africa is something I have really wanted to do after seeing some of the problems they experience, especially in poor areas such as Kibera.
My Mum and I will also be going with my friend Jake and his mum Ally, we are going with a team of Teachers and Educational Professionals, put together by the CRED Foundation. My Mum is a Nurse and she will be helping to Promote Health and Hygiene with the children.
I am looking forward to meeting the children in the Academy, especially as they will speak English, so it will be easy to speak to them! I am helping in this trip by bringing some new experiences to them like making friendship Bracelets, crafts and a Guitar or Ukulele that I can teach the children some tunes to play.
Lots of teenagers from the UK have visited the Academy in Kenya, but my friend Jake and I will be the first children of their age to visit.
I am going to share with the Children what my life is like in England, my Culture, House, School, Food and Interests. I will be making a video to show on an I Pad as well as taking a scrap book with photo’s in. I think it is going to be very different from my life in England and I want to learn about life in Kibera, where over 2.5 Million people live in the Slum, in small shacks leaning against each other. I would like to help the children make there own videos about their lives for me to share when I return to England.
I need to raise a lot of Money to help pay for my trip to Kenya and to take some supplies such as Pencils, Books and hopefully a Guitar or a few Ukulele’s that we will be able to fit in my Luggage. I am doing a sponsored Hike up Pen Y Fan, the highest mountain in South Wales on Saturday 30 March 2013. Please could you sponsor me and support my fund raising in some way?
THANK YOU SO MUCH !
