Story
Every 3 minutes someone begins to develop dementia and there is currently no cure. In the UK, Alzheimer’s is set to become one of the biggest killers, which will inevitably affect everyone’s futures and lives in some way.
Alzheimer’s Society is facing dementia head on by providing information, support, funding research and creating a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted without fear or prejudice.
I’m teaming up with them to tackle THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA on a 10-day trek starting on September 6th with the goal of not only educating myself about this disease but to also help raise awareness and money that will go directly into funding research, support and care.
Over the 10-days I will be hiking over 70 km of path, woodland, farmland, and of course, one of the seven wonders of the world, the Great Wall. Starting in the heart of the Yanshan Mountains I will quickly get a taste of what lies ahead by climbing up steep steps, clambering down valley sides, encountering ‘Heaven’s Ladder’ before completing the journey at Shixiaguan.
I will be incredibly grateful for any donations, large or tiny, and if you need further motivation, for every £1 that I raise QBE Insurance Europe Ltd will match it (how amazing is that!). And remember you can turn a £1 donation into £1.25 with gift aid.
Here’s some info on what your donation could go towards:
£21 could pay for a person with dementia, or their carer, to spend an hour with one of our experienced Dementia Support Workers
£50 could fund the equipment a dementia researcher needs for a day to investigate ways to improve care and treatment for the condition and brings us closer to finding a cure.
£116 could pay for a person with dementia or their carer to attend peer support sessions for one month.
£300 could pay for a focus group for people with dementia and their carers so we can consult them about a current policy issue and represent their needs.
Thank you so much for checking out my JustGiving!
