My Story

Over 12 months ago I started my training for a twitch Triathlon I madly decided to take part in alongside friends. As part of the training I needed to massively improve my cycling stamina, which was lacking...

Helpfully, Jenny & Stefan got involved and pushed me into training. Little did I know how much I'd love cycling and enjoy getting out there in the early mornings, riding around the country roads, and inevitably finishing at Greggs for a well earned latte!

Having bought myself a road bike, padded shorts (for comfort!) and other cycling paraphernalia which I've convinced myself is essential, we took part in a Wiggle Sportive which was my longest ride to date. We all survived and enjoyed it but started to look for our next challenge...

Jenny already had a place in the Ride 100 London - Surrey for 2018, so we thought she would love some company and subsequently Neighomi's Riders was born.

The Prudential Ride 100 London - Surrey starts in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, then follows a 100-mile route on closed roads through the capital and into Surrey’s stunning countryside with some leg-testing climbs in between.

Why Kicks Count?

A baby’s movements indicate its wellbeing and a reduction in fetal movement can be a key warning sign that the baby is in distress. By recognising a change in movement and reporting it to their healthcare professional Mums can help ensure the healthy delivery of their baby

Whilst there isn’t one solution to reducing stillbirth, a decrease in fetal movement is a key warning sign that the baby is struggling in the womb and early delivery could save nearly a third of stillborn babies. The Confidential Enquiry into Stillbirths and Deaths in Infancy found that lack of prompt management to reduced fetal movement was a contributing factor to stillbirth.

Kicks Count produces leaflets with important information about baby’s movements, antenatal note stickers and kick counting wristbands to help mums keep track of baby’s movements and encourages them to contact their midwife or antenatal ward if they notice any change in their baby’s regular pattern of movement.  They exhibit at all the major baby shows to get the message out to mums about the importance of baby’s movements.

And finally...

Whilst Jenny, Stefan and I (Neighomi's Riders) will be devoting our time, energy and training to ensure we're ready for this challenge, knowing we'll be raising money for Kicks Count  and Kids will give us the extra encouragement we'll need at mile 89 of the Ride 100!

Please donate whatever you can safe in the knowledge that your support will be greatly appreciated, not only by myself but also the Kicks Count.
