After prolonging the decision as long as possible, i have decided to pull out of the London Marathon. Believe me, this has been a really hard decision. I really wanted to complete the run and trained extremely hard for it, however, 5 weeks ago, I overdone a run (a 14 miler) which resulted to me incurring an injury known as ITB (tightening of the muscle)
After 16 physio sessions to try and help reduce the inflammation (which has been unsuccessful), 2 MRI scans to see the muscle damage and 3 Cortisone injections (which was a last resort), it has not helped to resolve the knee pain. Both the physio and the Sports Medicine Doctor have recommended that i withdraw from the run (which is in 2 weeks) as they cannot advise on anything else other then resting the knee for a month or 2 and to re-start my training again (from scratch!!).
The charity has confirmed that my space will be carried over to next year (so I will still be doing it) and the donations that all of you have kindly given will still go the Charity.
I am extremely disappointed, but thought I would let you all know.
