Story
Hello
For those of you who don’t know I spend some of my week working for Westminster Society for people with learning disabilities; mostly within the youth service which is for 14-19 year olds. To give a small insight in to some of the stuff we do; we enable young people to attend Community Centres; weekend clubs and outings; holiday schemes and additional projects throughout the year such as our Youth Transition Project which supports young people to learn essential life skills for the future.
Some examples of recent activities include African drumming, sledging, trampolining, horse riding and a tour of the BBC studios. These are only made possible by funding and the more money we have the better and more frequent the trips can be. It is amazing seeing the faces and difference in some of the young people when they have completely new experiences or explore new environments.
As the government and councils are full of really clever people funding from these sources is continuously being cut meaning the opportunities and level of care for these young people is rapidly decreasing.
I have never run a half marathon before and the 22nd June isn’t far away. I intend to run it as fast as I can…friends and family will know that I don’t do anything in half measures! I also hope to raise as much money as I possibly can so get giving.
Thank you.
