Story
I love mountains...Joya loves sunsets...we both love adventures...what could possibly go wrong?!
If you've been in any kind of contact with me or Joya in the last few weeks, or months, you'll be aware that it's time for us to head on our next adventure...this one, is a big one. Hence this page. I've already paid for the trip and all of the related costs, but people assume that because this is 'kind of a big deal' they should donate some money. And who am I to stop people from giving money to excellent causes? The fact is too many people I know and love have had to deal with cancer, so that's where I'm choosing to donate the money.
The subject of adventure is never far away from a conversation between Joya and myself. There are lists of exciting places to visit, things to experience and adrenaline rushes to achieve. Lists have been made, revised and ticked off. But what's the point of having these things listed on a piece of paper? The excitement comes in having the experience. So that is how it all started, when on one sunny day we strolled into Trailfinders and Joya announced to a room full of travel agents..."I'd like to climb Everest please."
We leave on Friday...this Friday (the 27th)...I know, I should be packing, rather than writing this...We fly to Kathmandu via Abu Dhabi, where we'll spend a day before flying in the world's smallest plane to Lakar, where the trek begins. It will take us 10 days of hard walking to climb to Base Camp where we'll see some beautiful views of Everest and then we'll turn around and spend 4 days walking back down. Our nights will be spent in tea houses (which I assure you, will be far less grand than they sound!) sleeping in our shiny new -19 degrees centigrade sleeping bags.
If you fancy donating some money, that's great - you're amazing.
