All proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to Lighthouse Ward at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, in thanks and recognition for the amazing work they do - particularly when it has come to the life of one special little girl.
Here is her story, and just one example of the incredible effort the staff put in:

Aaliyah Evans was born on the 29th April 2022. Sadly, they discovered that she had chronic kidney disease two weeks before birth, and her lungs collapsed as her mum's water had been leaking and fluid levels had dropped too low to support her growth. They were told she would most likely pass away shortly after birth.
When she was born, the cord was wrapped around her neck which unfortunately led to a bleed on head. Only four hours after birth, little Aaliyah had to be revived with CPR. It took 4 minutes for her to start breathing on her own which added another brain bleed. Sadly this has resulted in irreversible damage, with part of her brain irretrievably dead. But doctors aren't sure what the effect will be, as what they thought it would affect she starting to do so won't know until she is older.
Day 2, Aaliyah had to have an operation to put in a chest drain. It took 4 days for her lungs to start working without any help.
After that, she would need another operation to put in the blood line for haemodialysis. The doctor told her family that she had a 20% chance of making it, and the use of blood thinners could lead to more bleeding on the brain and therefore more brain damage.
At 5 days old, Aaliyah was transferred to a different hospital's Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) to have treatment on the blood line. From there, she went for another operation; this time a peritoneal dialysis (PD) catheter to be put in to handle kidney function. Thankfully, the operation went well and for 4 months they manually drained her catheter with no issues. Things looked stable, and she was draining enough fluid to upgrade to machine dialysis.
Sadly, a few days later, Aaliyah got a bad cold that turned into bronchitis. This started to put fluid on her lungs and stopped breathing. The Lighthouse Ward staff worked hard to revive her with CPR and transferred her back to PICU where they worked on her lungs. She was on life support for a week, after which they took her off and re-started PD treatment. Unfortunately, little Aaliyah once again stopped breathing in PICU and had to be resuscitated. When she started to improve, it was back to Lighthouse Ward.
Then, in another unfortunate turn, her PD line stopped draining and she needed an additional operation to unblock it. Further complications arose when, after yet another operation, this time to remove her hernias, the PD treatment began to leak from the hole. Hospital staff attempted to rest the PD line by changing her over to a haemodialysis line for 6 weeks then restarting the PD. But, sadly, the leaking continued, so it was back to the haemo.
Now at 9 months, Aaliyah has haemodialysis 4 times a week with Lighthouse Ward, where the fantastic staff are always happy to administer a cuddle for the little girl they've given so much love and effort to get her to where she is today.
