Story

Thank you for visiting my page! My name is Nadia and in collaboration with Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), I am trekking 100 km across Palestine to raise funds for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. The trek will take 7 days, starting from Nablus and ending in Jerusalem.

I am personally interested in the work of MAP because my father is a Palestinian refugee who was born in Lebanon and grew up in the Palestinian camp of Haret Hreik in Beirut. His parents both fled the village of their ancestors in the Palestinian-Israeli Nakba war of 1948, although other relatives still remain in the Occupied Territories today. I have managed to visit our relatives in Akka, Palestine but this trip will take me to other communities to gain a greater understanding of the difficulties they continually contend with and I can’t wait to share my stories.

UNRWA (the United Nations Relief Works Agency) provides aid, mostly in the form of education, healthcare, food security and other essentials, to more than 5 million Palestinians inside and outside of Palestine. With the current huge cut in donations to UNRWA, there will be an even greater need for charitable support for healthcare and medications. Now, more than ever, the work of MAP within Palestine is essential.

We have been asked to raise a minimum of £2,500 each (approximately AED 12,000) that will support MAP projects in the West Bank, Gaza and the refugee camps in Lebanon. As a group of 15-30 volunteers, we aim to raise a joint amount of £100,000 to support MAP’s projects. This includes aiding Palestinians that are in dire need of medical treatment, as well as ensuring the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system. Please note that I will be self-funding my trip and all donations will go straight to MAP.

£5 (approximately AED 25): could help pay for antibiotics
£10 (approx. AED 50): could help pay for medicine to treat blood loss
£25 (approx. AED 125): could help pay for a hygiene kit containing sanitary products and nappies
£50 (approx. AED 250): could help provide a displaced family with a blanket and mattress
£85 (approx. AED 425): could help pay for antiseptic to treat patients who have suffered from burns

As you can see, any amount will help; whether big or small, it will go a long way. Thank you for your support, even if it is to simply spread help the word. I will be updating this page throughout my journey so do check back!

Love and peace,

Nadia
