Story
FOCSA, Friends of Colombia for Social Aid is a registered British charity, started 60 years ago, dedicated to improving the health of the most vulnerable children in Colombia. All of our activities are run strictly by volunteers therefore, all of your donations reach our aim.
The purpose of the funds we are aiming to collect is to help two groups of aborigines of different regions of Colombia, These groups are descendants of the originals of our land, with very ancient and spiritual cultures and they speak their own languages. They
are the Kantinurwa who live in the area of the Sierra Nevada near the Atlantic Ocean, and the Nueva Buenavista group who live in Guapi, near the Pacific Ocean, these two areas are very rural and because of the Corona Virus they are suffering near starvation.
According to IWGIA (International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs), in their publication Indigenous World 2020, “The indigenous population of Colombia is at present 1,905,617 Indigenous individuals across all peoples”.
FOCSA, working with established organisations will deliver food water and essential supplies to the Kantinurwa and the Nueva Buenavista groups.
Before the pandemic, women artisans were developing their art of basketry, marketing their products in a way that allowed them to buy food and to pay for their children’s education in the nearby village, they could survive in a dignified and autonomous way but now the uncertainty is great, this is the reason why we are eager to help them.
Your help makes me feel we are “walking together”
