Story

Pre eclampsia is a condition that affects pregnant women. There is a big risk to the mother and her unborn baby especially if it develops into eclampsia which is life threatening for both. Complications of pre eclampsia are responsible for the death of approximately six to seven women every single year and approximately 1,000 babies every single year in the United Kingdom. Without treatment pre eclampsia can prove fatal and although many women are stable and medicated throughout their pregnancy the only way to end the pre eclampsia is to deliver the baby.

In my family there is a history of pre eclampsia and as a result of this my brother was born prematurely and very sick, he very luckily made a full recovery.

So when i had children there was always the 'risk'. I had my daughter in 2010 and suffered pregnancy induced hypertension. In 2013 i had my son, i suffered from severe pre eclampsia whilst pregnant with Caelan, he was born at 35 weeks weighing 5lbs 7oz, he spent one week in hospital and a short time in special care for his jaundice. Through all this I recieved care from The Silver Star Society in the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford.

I would like to raise money for them because without the Silver Star women with conditions such as pre eclampsia would not recieved as good care as they do there. My son was born early but healthy all thanks to the decisions made by my consulting team at the Silver Star. The money raised goes towards the care of silver stars patients, funding towards vital additional training for midwives and funding research into serious complications of pregnancy.

So to mark one whole year from my sons delivery and the care i recieved by the Silver Star team, i would like to raise some money to say thank you and help other parents and babies.
