Story
This is set up on behalf of the Dyas family in memory of husband, father and brother Gerald 'Gez' Dyas. As I'm sure all are aware by now, my Dad sadly passed away on Friday 26th November as result of multi-organ failure, after many requests from him to be taken off of life support, on the back of COVID Pneumonia. He'd been admitted to Pinderfields Hospital a week earlier on Friday 19th. My Mum was also admitted in this time on Tuesday 23rd November and was brought home on Friday 3rd December.
The care my parents received in their time in Pinderfields Hospital was exceptional. I was given permission to visit both parents in Acute Care and in Intensive Care, following full COVID safety measures, and the level of concern the NHS staff displayed towards both myself and what I witnessed of my parents during these visits was remarkable - especially given the strain they must be feeling My Mum, though notified by myself of my Dad's passing on my request (something the Nurses saw right to discuss with me before Mum was informed), had a team of Doctors, Nurses, Crisis professionals, a Dietician, a Physiotherapist and even Vicars seeing her - showing great empathy in light of our bereavement.
I sat on several occasions with a coffee, looking at the My Hospitals Charity Christmas tree in the Pinderfields entrance while I was waiting for the times arranged to don PPE and see my parents. In that time I realised just how much the NHS had done for my Dad during his life. As a child he had Rheumatic Fever, several eye operations - including a corneal graft following an accident - meaning his vision being kept to such a standard that he was able to ride his motorbike. He also received management for Diabetes and Hypertension.
Though 62 is no age to go, it is with thanks to the hospital facilities in our area and our NHS workers that he was able to live the life he did.
There will be a box at the crematorium where cash can be donated on the day of his funeral, this is for anyone else wishing to contribute/should COVID restrict etc.
Thank you,
Geena x
