Story
Following a long recovery as a result of breaking two bones in my back in 2009, it has been a challenge to maintain a steady level of fitness. Later in 2014 I contracted a viral infection that seriously affected my balance called Labyrinthitis, which meant no exercise for a further 6 months.
So what has kept me going?
I have been working with personal trainer Mike Meinke since April 2015 to regain my fitness and to work on new ways of motivation and maintenance. Mike also likes to set me challenges! So when he said, “hey, ya gonna run a half-marathon this year? I will run it with you.” I found myself saying “yeah, sure!”
What am I running a half-marathon for?
Well, all the way through the recovery from my back injury and again following the Labyrinthitis I have had pets or animals in my life. A dog or cat doesn’t understand an injury and whilst they are a responsibility, they are also great company and comfort. I am sure I wouldn’t have recovered half as quickly without them.
All my pets have come from rescue centres and living in Guernsey I support the GSPCA and its work. Both Mike and I volunteer there and this was our common interest to run the Guernsey Dairy Half-Marathon on Sunday 19 June 2016 together.
Our challenge?
Well I want to complete the run with Mike and I aim to do so in or around the two hour marker. It’s 13.1 miles and so far I can run 5. If Mike and I can raise £2,000 for the GSPCA that will be challenge accomplished.
What can you do?
Sponsor us to achieve our target and I will keep you
posted on my progress in the run up to the event.
