Story

Our beautiful, brave, witty, bright, loving full of life Bronte Doyne.

Bronte was diagnosed with a very rare cancer Fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma in November 2011 soon after her 18th birthday. We lost our girl 16 months later.

How do I describe my Bronte in a few words? ..Unique, full of life, witty, feisty, your best friend and always so loyal. Her strength of character entwined in her truely beautiful heart. She was never afraid to stand up and speak out for people and fairness in the world. She had many ambitions for the future. Through her illness, Bronte carried on her everyday life, attending college, working, catching up with her friends and family, living life. She defied how ill she often felt, still smiling that beautiful Bronte smile no matter what, leaving many people completely in shock when she passed away so suddenly in March. Many who knew Bronte sum her up with the words …. she was a true breath of fresh air”.

Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular Carcinoma is a rare form of liver cancer that most often occurs in young adults between the ages of 15 and 25 years of age who have no history of liver disease. Because this disease is so rare statistics are not readily available but is believed to occur in approx 200 cases per year worldwide. Because there have been no clinical trials on these patients, there is no recognised form of chemo or radiation treatment other than liver resection surgery.

“All funds raised on this justgiving page will go towards the specialist Teenage Cancer Trust Units in Nottingham, to make sure that other young people in the Nottingham area with cancer can receive the care and support that they need”.
