Story
Over the years we all know someone who is affected by this terrible illness which currently there is NO cure for.
Some families suffer in silence and the subject of Alzheimer's, Dementia and Mental Health conditions seems to be a taboo subject and times and this needs to stop. These illnesses are here and we need to change, speak out for the people who can't always speak for themselves, we need to make people more aware of this condition and how to deal with it within society.
Alzheimer's and Dementia isn't just an elderly or "getting old" condition, it can happen to anyone of any age, gender, race, religion or sexuality.
We as a society need to support those who go through this illness, understand it and understand them without judgement, after all, they are still people!
Speaking from personal experience, I have a nan who currently has dementia and it is hard. Hard for her, hard for her husband, hard for the family and hard for everyone who knows her. She lost family members to the condition too and at the beginning, I didn't fully understand or prepare myself for understanding what was happening or going to happen to her. The condition can come on quickly or slowly, it can take many forms and variations and affect people in different ways. I have found it hard, coping with my nan and her condition, trying to remember the good memories with her as one day I will be one of those memories for her!
Supporting one another through this is key, there are people out there who you can talk to, people who understand and people who have been through similar situations.
I would like to raise awareness as well as donations for this event which I am holding and would like as many people as possible involved.
My Special Event is holding a VIRTUAL CUPCAKE BAKING EVENT.
Dust off your baking bowls and whip out your whisks! Alzheimer's Society's Cupcake Day is here. On September 6th, bake a cake, send a picture to the event via Facebook or send it to myself at info@myspecialevent.co.uk and I will upload it on my website page for the event. Eat the cake with family members and have a good time, create those memories and donate "if you can" to help those who memories are unfortunately fading. Every penny you donate will help support people affected by dementia by funding care, services and pioneering research to discover new treatments.
Thank you.
