Story
Carmela aged 6 with a rare progressive muscle wasting condition - LMNA-CMD, is attempting to raise £2600 doing 26 laps of her home therapy assault course in LOCKDOWN as part of the national 2.6 Challenge in place of the London Marathon for Muscular Dystrophy UK.
Carmela's current strength is around the same as an elderly and is unable to walk long distances, needs assistance to walk up steps, needs to use both hands to hold a lolly, and some days can't get off the floor or have the energy to move, yet despite her progressive weakness, she has set herself an ambitious challenge to help raise a great amount
Thank you so much for your donations so far.
Carmela will be going LIVE for the challenge via her Facebook page 'Carmela's Stand Up To Muscular Dystrophy' Sunday 26th April at 2.06pm.
Her therapy gym equipment has been set up as an assault course for the duration of 12 weeks in isolation to encourage Carmela to keep moving as people with Muscular Dystrophy become very stiff and sore if sat in one place too long. Carmela has currently been doing 3 laps then wiped out for a couple of hours, so doing 26 laps is very adventurous, so her mum will be there to assist when tired and to remove any equipment that will cause her to over exert her muscles which is not adviseable as muscles fibres can't be healed with this condition.
Muscular Dystrophy UK like many other charities struggling through this Covid-19 pandemic, are finding it difficult to support those who rely heavily on them, like Carmela does, so hundreds of people who were running the London Marathon for Muscular Dystrophy UK are doing this alternative 2.6 challenge in lockdown which involves doing anything to include the numbers 2 and 6.
Please show Carmela who daily demonstrates courage, bravery and determination with her body slowly failing her, your support and sponsor her via this link or tune in to her LIVE challenge on her Facebook page.
