Story

Very sadly and unexpectedly this March, Emilia, one of our Seahorses at Meoncross Nursery and the daughter of one our colleagues, Caroline, passed away from sepsis following an undiagnosed invasive strep A infection.  Emilia enjoyed nursery and talked about her teachers and friends a lot at home.

Since Emilia loved coming on cycle rides with her family, participating in the Cycle4Sepsis September challenge seems a very fitting tribute to such a special little girl.

We are joining with Emilia's family, friends and fellow pupils at Meoncross by taking part in the Cycle4Sepsis Challenge as staff with as many of us cycling as much as possible in September to raise money for the Sepsis Trust.  You can follow the miles we have cycled on this page.

Every year in the UK, sepsis kills at least 48,000 people.  With better awareness, thousands of these lives could be saved.  As well as raising awareness, the Sepsis Trust also supports families affected by sepsis through therapy and counselling.  They have also since March been supporting those affected by Covid-19.  Your donations make a real difference and we thank you!

See the gallery for the signs of Sepsis and for information on how your donations are spent.

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
