I am running the Brighton Marathon- 42 km, a first for me in memory of my dear sister-in-law, Rufaro Yvonne Shumba. She passed away on the 1st of April, 2019. Yes it did feel like an April Fools' Day joke on us but it wasn't. She was gone too early at only 44, leaving behind two daughters and a son. All because of bowel cancer.

Before falling ill she was full of energy, smiley and always encouraging. I particularly felt her encouragement in my chosen career in nature conservation and social development. Often when I told her of what my colleagues and I were doing she would bounce with excitement, praise and encouragement. Her stores of energy and encouragement were literally inexhaustible and I was richer for that. I am sure many others might say the same when they think of her.
In honour of her special impact and encouragement, which I sorely miss more now, I would like to kindly ask you you to donate to my chosen charity, WWF UK. I have worked for the organisation for many years and not only believe in the cause and mission of WWF but know that it goes a long way to support fantastic work around the world.
You could also make a donation to the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe which also helps those unfortunate to find themselves diagnosed with cancer in my native country of Zimbabwe. Any amount goes a long way particularly in tough economic conditions that Zimbabwe is going through. Their website is https://cancerzimbabwe.org/ where you can find links for donating. Please kindly let me know if you do so.
Thank you again for supporting these two causes in memory of a special and dear sister, Rufaro Yvonne "Speedy" Shumba nee Mlambo.
Will be updating this page as we get closer to the Marathon on Sept 12, 2021.
