Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year has been a tough year with the fight against cancer. My family and friends have both been affected, some winning and some losing their fights. I lost my Gran this year and felt absolutely helpless having to watch how rapidly the disease can take hold. In a matter of months she was gone and I don't think I can really close the door on it because I couldn't believe the timeline, seeing her at my Daughter's Christening one week and bed bound the next was heartbreaking.
A couple of weeks after the Christening I took Rose to see her (for what was to be the last time.) My parents had moved her into a room downstairs, surrounded by her zany Austrian trinkets with 2 double doors overlooking the garden. My Mam said she's having a hard time staying awake but when Rose went bounding in her eyes opened and everything I loved of my Gran was in that moment. I talked, not sure about what exactly, told her I loved her and she never stopped squeezing my hand, her eyes were smiling back at me.
I have never had an organised fight, never mind in a cage. Mixed Martial Arts has always fascinated me from a young age and when the opportunity arose to compete and raise money for such a worthwhile cause I threw myself straight in.
I am grateful and fortunate in the fact I enjoy an active lifestyle and I wanted to put that to the test. This is a challenge of a lifetime and it is so far away from my comfort zone. Putting action into this empowers me with the sense that I can do have some meaningful impact on something I initially felt absolutely helpless with.
