Story
Sam and I lost our beloved Dad /Granda to Alzheimer’s and Vascular Dementia 4 years ago. When I say we lost him, of course I mean when he actually passed away, but we lost him long before that, slowly and painfully for him and for all of us. There’s nothing harder than watching your hero, the man you looked up to all your life and who guided you and protected you, gradually slip away from you.
I have a lifetime of wonderful memories of my Dad, but Sam is not so lucky. Although he remembers his Granda, his memories are mostly of visits to the care home where he spent his final months..... very distressing for a 6 year old.
Sam and I decided to take part in the Memory Walk this year to try to help as much as we can to win the battle against Dementia and stop others from going through the agony of this dreadful disease and in the hope that one day no child will have to watch their grandparent suffer like that.
Every three minutes someone in the UK develops dementia. That's the equivalent of around 225,000 people every year. By taking part in Memory Walk you are helping us walk for a dementia free future and help people affected by dementia.Once you donate, JustGiving will send your money directly to Alzheimer's Society. So it's the most efficient way to raise money, saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Let's take on dementia together!
