Memory Walk 2021
Campaign by Alzheimer's Society (RCN 296645)
This year thousands of people will walk united, against dementia. With your help, we aim to raise as much money as possible to help anyone affected by dementia.

Story

My Mum Maggie Brown dedicated her life to nursing people with mental health issues & dementia during her 34 year career at Stanley Royd Hospital in Wakefield, where for the most part she was a highly respected senior ward Sister. She was so dedicated to her job, if you could have cut Mum in two, it would have honestly said the word NURSE throughout every fibre of her being. Mum was feisty “old school” ward sister, strong, had no time for anyone not looking after the best interests of her patients, constantly fighting for other people’s rights, always caring others less fortunate than her, was known as a force not to be reckoned with and could get blood out of a stone if it was in the interests of her patients.

Mum developed breast cancer requiring her to have a mastectomy 23rd Dec 1990. Such was her dedication to her job, Mum discharged herself on Christmas Eve, so she could be there for her elderly patients on Christmas day, as many didn't have any family to visit, so Mum made sure they had the best day possible.

Sadly, Mum's worst nightmare is reality and she now has advanced Alzheimer's, so as we go through the agony of watching Mum fading day by day, I want to do everything I can to ensure my daughter doesn’t have to go through the same devastation of losing me the same way as her much loved Nanna.

Martin, my daughter Chloé and I will be dragging our sorry very
unfit lockdown lardy asses to take part in The Memory Walk for The Alzheimer's Society on Sunday 20th March. We’re doing this in honour of my Mum and we'd be SO grateful if you could sponsor us to help raise funds for vital research into the cruel illness, as well as providing support for families affected by dementia.

Every three minutes someone in the UK develops dementia. That's the equivalent of around 225,000 people every year. By donating to our Memory Walk you are helping us find a solution to have a dementia free future, as well as helping people affected by the devastating cruelty of Alzheimer's Disease and providing support to their families.

Once you donate, JustGiving will send your money directly to Alzheimer's Society, so it's the most efficient way to raise money, saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Let's take on dementia together!

I make no apologies for my begging email, but we really would be
SO grateful if you could help raise funds for research into this horrendous disease, e
ven a couple of pounds can make a difference and you can also donate anonymously too.

Thanks for taking the time to read about Mum and why we're
raising money for The Alzheimer's Society.

Thank you for reading Maggie’s story and for your donation, no matter how much, every little bit helps and we’re deeply grateful for your support.
