Story
Featured on our cover photo, my mother Ann and my mother-in-law Margaret were great friends and sadly we lost them both to Alzheimer’s.They are both buried a couple of hundred yards from their respective homes, Ann’s in Newark and Margaret’s in Branston. My sister-in-law Deb and I are planning to walk from grave to grave in memory of our mothers. Google says it is 17 miles and in recognition of our slightly worn joints we are going to tackle it in two stages on 14th and 17th September. Ann was a lifelong member of Inner Wheel which enabled me to join my local club of Melton Mowbray Belvoir and this year I have the honour of being its President. One of the objectives of IW is to encourage the ideals of personal service and in doing this walk on behalf of my Club, the money raised will go directly towards helpIng those affected by this life changing disease.
Around 225,000 people develop dementia every year, that's the equivalent to one person every three minutes. This year Memory Walks will be taking place across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to raise money for a world without dementia. Once you donate, JustGiving will send your money directly to Alzheimer's Society. So it's the most efficient way to raise money, saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Let's take on dementia together!
