Story
Dementia effects so many people across the UK and is one of the cruelest diseases. You lose your loved one twice, firstly when they don’t recognise you anymore and secondly when they pass away, and in between these two stages you have to watch their demise as they disappear and become the shell of the person they were, often living in pain and fear as they don’t understand what is happening.
Dementia had a massive impact on our family, as I lost my dad to it on the 30th January 2018 and Terry and I lost our mum on the 3rd February 2018. Both of them suffered greatly and so, after Nicola told me about the Glow walk, it seemed like this was a good way of remembering both of them whilst trying to raise some funds to try and find a cure.
225,000 people develop dementia every year – that's the equivalent to one person every three minutes. Memory Walks will be taking place across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to raise money for a world without dementia. Arm in arm, step by step and pound by pound, we will get there. Once you donate, Just Giving will send your money directly to the Alzheimer's Society. So it's the most efficient way to raise money – saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Please dig deep and help us walk for a world without dementia.
