Story
On October 1st, we shall be participating in the Clumber Park Memory walk/run to raise much needed funds for dementia care and research.
Dementia is an umbrella term for a number of different brain disorders which lead to a loss of brain function - the most prevalent being Alzheimer's which accounts for 62% of those diagnosed.
It is a leading cause of disability in the elderly - more common than cancer, heart disease or a stroke. Every 3 minutes, someone somewhere in the UK develops dementia and it touches hundreds of thousands of lives every single year.
Despite this, it is still one of the most dramatically underfunded areas of research, receiving approximately just 3% of the government's medical budget.
Over the course of all our lifetimes, many of us will experience the devastation caused by this disease, whether personally or through our family members and friends. Contrary to popular belief, dementia isn't simply a loss of memory - but a life changing loss of personality and independence, which leaves our loved ones a shadow of their former selves.
We hope to raise a small amount to help care for the 850,000 people in the UK currently living with a Dementia diagnosis & to provide support to their caregivers, families and loved ones.
Any donations are gratefully appreciated.
