Story
We are all walking for our Mum, Grandma & Great Grandma Sylvia Higginbottom. We've called out team 'Don't call me Edith' because that was Mum's first name but she didn't like it and always said 'don't call me Edith'. Mum passed away peacefully on 13 April 2015 and amongst her many ailments for an elderly lady who reached 80 in January (we had a wonderful surprise party for her which has left us with some lovely memories) she had Alzheimer's. It was a very cruel condition that reduced a very intelligent and talented lady who used to make anything and everything with wool or material, clothes, bedding, curtains to toys, she even had an embroidered patch added to one of the WI's quilts at one time, to not even being able to sew a plain running stitch on a piece of child's practice embroidery kit, I can assure you it wasn't a straight line & you can see where Mum had given up and put the needle away through the holes. But despite all her health problems and frustrations Mum was always laughing and smiling and that's what we are going to do on 26 September at Heaton Park and we are all going to hope that she is with us in spirit, walking with us, not in her wheelchair or using a stick.
