They have launched the prototype in September and are now starting the Cleanup of the garbage patch in the Pacific Ocean.

I think when the idea first emerged nobody believed Boyan Slat would be able to actually get this running and have any success with it. I was very impressed with his "just going for it" approach and have followed the story of the enterprise with interest.

With climate change looming over our head and our environment suffering from the tons of plastic we have managed to produce in the short time span that it has been invented, I could have picked a number of charities that do woodland-preservation or other great things. But I watched "The Ocean Film Festival" this year and it made me sentimental and I love the ocean and so, for this time, I decided to go with an Ocean charity.
