Earlier this year, my sister Dee was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. If you didn’t know, sorry to drop the news on you like this and let me assure you that it was caught very early, treated expertly and she is now fine. Well, as fine as you can be when you’ve been through the shock, surgery and recovery involved with beating this.
Macmillan were a massive part of making this bull s**t, less s**t.
Sorry for the language but “the bulls**t” is what a good friend of mine called the numerous cancers that she defeated and the one that eventually beat her.
So why Lands End to John O’Groats? Last year, two of my very good friends from home, Aaron and Kieran, took on the same challenge to raise funds to fight cancer as their families had also been affected. Heroically, Kieran hauled his giant frame the length of the country to complete the challenge. Tragically, Aaron had to tap out halfway through to get home to face an even bigger challenge. His Mum’s health had taken a dramatic turn for the worst and he made it back to spend her precious, final days with her. He has entered again (he is a stubborn man) but he needed a new wingman. It’s my honour to take this on.
Whether survived or not, cancer leaves physical and mental scars on everyone it touches. It can be beaten but no one ever wins. Macmillan have been there for everyone I talk about here. Their work is essential but it is a charity and always in need of funding.. Please, please donate a little/a lot to help fund the amazing work they do. This isn’t a bucket list tick funded by you, this will be the hardest physical challenge I’ve ever taken on.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
