HEELS FOR MUM

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 7th May 2016 I lost my mother to cancer. During her final few weeks she was under the care of Macmillan nurses who were absolutely fantastic.
To say a big thank you for all the wonderful support they provided my mother I have again decided to raise money for Macmillan by doing another sponsored walk wearing high heels.
The walk will take place on the 27th August 2016 and I will
be walking from Swansea Civic Centre to Mumbles Pier along the seafront footpath and I will also be carrying a collection bucket on route.
The last time I done it for Macmillan back in 2015 I walked the distance of a half marathon. The walk was based on distance rather than maximum heel height but this time I have decided to do it differently by walking 5 miles wearing extremely high heels. The walk will be based on heel height rather than extreme distance. The heels I will be wearing will have stiletto heels that are 7 inches high. The platforms will be 2 inches thick. This means a total elevation of 5 inches.
This will mean the shoes will in theory be the highest heels I have walked in as the previous highest had a 4.25-inch elevation or a 4.25-inch heel. Heels were 6 inch with a 1.75 platform.
The shoes will also be bright green in colour so they stand
out. I will be wearing them with bright neon green fishnet footless tights but will have very thin pop socks on my feet. I had also considered normal fishnets. I will be wearing the normal green charity t-shirt and a pair of bright neon green shorts
As always my biggest problem during the walk will be
blisters on my toes, the soles of my feet and to a lesser extent my heels.
So how do I expect to do? To be honest I think this will be
the toughest challenge yet based purely on the heel height. I would not like to say if I will complete the 5 miles but if I do I expect my feet will suffer regardless how comfortable the shoes are. I say this because the
shoes that I wore for my half marathon left my feet in agony and it was as much as I could do to walk or stand. It was a total different contrast compared to when I wore the same shoes for a whole 31 days as replacements for my normal shoes when they proved to be very comfortable. Based on the last time I walked 5 miles in high heels I'm expecting the walk to take around 4 to 5 hours
To be honest I would much prefer to wear a pair of sandals as it will be the middle of summer and very warm but due to availability of men’s
size high heels I am limited on style choice. I had three styles to choose from but I would prefer at the least an open toe which will let a bit of air circulate round my toes. They will also need to have steel heel tips
fitted
I’m really looking forward to the walk. The challenge of walking in heels is fantastic. I have always been the type of person who likes a challenge. I’m not the type of person to give up. The idea of each charity walk I do is to either walk further than the last time. Wear higher heels than last time or wear high heels for a longer period of time.
In the gallery is a picture showing the heels that I had shortlisted
for this challenge. The yellow pair were
my preferred option as they have an open toe but as i wanted green this is what i settled for.
They were kindly donated by the following online company
The first thing I do when the shoes arrived is to wear
them round the house to get used to them and make sure they are a good fit. They are made with men’s feet sizing in mind.
I need to take them down to the local shoe repairer to have a pair of steel heel tips fitted. This is a precaution to stop the plastic heel
tips wearing away which could also be dangerous.
I also need to keep my fingers crossed that the weather will
be warm dry on the day. The last thing I
want is wet weather which means I will need to postpone the walk to a dry day. This happened on a previous walk which I had
to postpone till the following weekend.
Once again I would like to say a huge thank you to all people who have donated to such a wonderful charity. I also want to say a huge thank you to Noo Shoes for donating the heels. Stay in touch to keep an eye on what is happening
