We had a great year fundraising for The Michelle Zalkin Scholarship in 2014, but we need to carry on the momentum! This year we are aiming to raise a really significant sum of money by running, crawling, swimming and jumping, over, through, into and under MUD!

Some people may be aware of what a Tough Mudder is. If you don't, take a look at the video on this page. You can find plenty of other videos on YouTube. This is an extreme event requiring strength, fitness, endurance and above all else, a suspension of your normal regard for safety and sanity. That's why we need Alun in the team!

Who is taking part? Me (Jon Ranger), Alun and Elyna Thomas, Robert Smith, James Hare and Annah Farragher. Tough Mudder is a team event, it's not something you can do on your own very easily. We hope to get each other round and use our individual skills to contribute to a fun day.

The Skipton Tough Mudder is over a watered, muddy course, 12 miles in length. There will be between 20 and 25 obstacles along the way.

The Michelle Zalkin Scholarship will provide a fully funded place each year on a Masters Degree in Child Public Health and Child Protection. This is the same MSC that Michelle took while undergoing chemotherapy. Michelle was an exceptional student and earned a distinction. Michelle worked in the community in a specialist clinic seeing the most complex and harrowing of child protection cases. She was an unstinting advocate of the child ensuring that everything was done, across all agencies to ensure that the child's needs were met and that they were safe from harm. The aim with the scholarship is to increase the pool of talent in this field. To encourage more talented students to further their education and skills in this vital, but highly challenging area. I hope that in future years, these scholarship students will be applying the knowledge they gain in the protection of children all over the UK.
