Story
Who I am:
I am Christopher Ortiz, a junior at La Salle High School. I was born and raised in Yakima later coming to La Salle my freshman year. In my free time I play guitar and like to run. Throughout my time here at La Salle High School I have served the community at Saint Vincent DePaul, the Union Gospel Mission, and Cottage in the Meadow. Yakima is a special place to many of us and I want to make sure we can come together as a community and help make it a better place.
What I am doing:
I am participating in The Memorial Foundation YouthWorks program to raise money for local child health services. My teammates and I are supporting Children’s Village and Memorial Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit among other organizations. To raise money, we accept community donations and host various fundraisers activities such as restaurant takeovers, and in-school sales. Outside of school I will be mainly washing cars and doing other service activities in my community.
Why I am fundraising:
I am a strong believer of helping others in the community. La Sallian schools emphasize the importance of their core values, such as Concern for the Poor and Social Justice, Inclusive Community, and Respect for all Persons. My time here at La Salle showed me to value the importance of helping others.
I am honored to participate in the Mr. La Salle pageant and help the children at Children’s Village. As I have seen firsthand how important they are to the Yakima community.
