Story
Hi, my name is Chris and in April 2020 I will be representing Unicef in the London Marathon. I will be one person in a team of 33, among over 40,000 runners completing the 26.2 mile course.
I am running to raise awareness of the work that Unicef completes not only in the United Kingdom, but also across the whole globe. Unicef is an international charity, but with one focus. Protecting and promoting the rights of children.
As a father of one and a part-time primary school teacher, who works in an inner London Unicef rights respecting school, I have long been a supporter and promoter of Unicef's work, but now feel it is time make a bigger contribution.
In the UK alone Unicef helps over 2 million children, from hospital wards to school play-grounds each year. Unicef are hoping to increase this number to 6 million children in the next 5 years.
Across the world children’s lives, rights and liberties are in danger every day. Unicef is there to help them.
12p protects one child from polio.
£5 buys a blanket to keep a baby warm in a hospital, day-care centre or refugee camp.
£10 purchases exercise books, pens, pencils, textbooks and other school things to support the education of a child for a whole year.
£19.50 provides mosquito nets that protects 7 families from malaria.
£136 donation provides school equipment for 40 children to continue with their education during an emergency or natural disaster with Unicef’s school in a box.
£1,063 is the cost of a temporary school or health centre for children who have survived a natural disaster, war or displacement to have a safe space to learn and play or receive medical care.
Any amount donated will make a massive difference to children’s lives here in Great Britain and across the world. My goal is to raise £2000.
