Story

Monmouth Rowing Club, as well as being an active rowing club, also likes to support good causes, so we adopt a local charity each year and raise funds from specific events as well as contributions raised through the various rowing events held at our club.  As this year's Regatta, due to be held on 23/24 May, has been canceled, we have decided to hold a fundraising Challenge that weekend, namely the MRC 6.0 Challenge.

This year, Monmouth Rowing Club has chosen the charity “Mind”, in support of Rui De Sousa Stayton, whose brother, JJ, took his own life last year. On May 10th, JJ would have turned 21, a desperately hard time for family and friends, (on top of COVID lockdown!) and an especially important time to support their charitable work in providing better mental health resources to young people.

The “60” or 6.0 theme is in honor of our club president, Mr. John Jenkins, who has been a stalwart member of MRC for 60 years, including the last few decades as a junior coach. John wholeheartedly supports the Mind charity and helping the younger generation through the core values that rowing helps to develop.

Challenge yourself to complete an exercise of your choosing around the number 60, for example, 60km on the erg as a team, 60 situps/press-ups, or 60 minutes of running. The possibilities are endless!

Good Luck!
