Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you are aware my lovely Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's when he was just 52 years old - 17 years ago. Sadly in September 2016, aged 69, he lost his battle and finally found peace. Throughout his illness Dad was very proactive in raising the profile of Alzheimer's and felt particularly strong in supporting research into the disease with the hope of saving others from experiencing its cruelness. The last defiant act he made against the disease was to donate his brain tissue to research in the hope it might unlock another secret.
Leading up to the anniversary of his death I, along with my brother, sisters and family friends are dusting off our running shoes to take on the Great North Run, an event that is very close to my heart having run it three times with Dad back in 2006, 2007 and 2008. We have chosen to run for Alzheimer's Research in support of Dad's hope that one day we will find a cure / effective treatment.
I am aware that many people have kindly supported my running efforts in the past and therefore may think that the GNR isn't much of a challenge. However since the arrival of our little boy William running has been replaced with dirty nappies and healthy eating, with cake! The reunion with my running trainers is proving to be VERY painful!
