Story
Having taken a couple of years off from fundraising (but not cycle challenges..!) I decided it was time to test my legs again and to do something out of the ordinary to help raise funds for another worthwhile cause. Having completed the Chase The Sun event in 2018 (206 miles in less than 17 hours) I thought doing a 24 hour cycle ride would be the next obvious step..!
I have signed up to do the Revolve 24 cycle event on 14-15 September 2019. The aim of this event is to cycle around the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit from 3.00pm on 14th Sept to 3.00pm on 15th Sept. That is 24 hours, on a bike seeing how many miles I can complete to raise funds for Cancer Research UK..! This will possibly the toughest challenge yet as I will need to battle both physical and mental fatigue, cycling through the night - all while keeping my Type 1 diabetes in check!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and I hope that you are able to support me and make a donation towards this really important charity. Most people have a friend or family member that is, or has been, affected by cancer. Figures taken from the CRUK web site show that:
- There are more than 360,000 new cancer cases in the UK every year, that's nearly 990 every day (2013-2015)
- Every two minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer
- There are around 164,000 cancer deaths in the UK every year, that's around 450 every day (2014-2016)
- Cancer accounts for more than a quarter (28%) of all deaths in the UK (2016)
- BUT with more and more research, cancer survival is improving and has doubled in the last 40 years in the UK.
Please help me to make a difference. Make a donation, share my JustGiving page on social media and help me raise much needed funds.
