London Marathon 2017 · 23 April 2017 ·
As you may know, I'm obsessed with 2 things: running and helping animals. I'm also fond of pink wine, but that's for another day.
This year I have a place in the London Marathon!!! (thanks to my AMAZING club, Petts Wood Runners) and it would be awesome if I could use this privilege to raise funds for the Humane Society International UK.
HSI work across the world for all sorts of animals, but the aspect that breaks my heart the most is the brutality of the dog (and cat) meat trade in Asia.
HSI is working in countries across Asia to end the grisly dog meat trade. They participate in raids on trucks crammed with dogs headed for torture and the most brutal slaughter imaginable. HSI provides funding to train officials for improved enforcement of laws and support care for confiscated animals. In China, they're fighting to end the annual Dog Meat 'Festival' in Yulin. In South Korea, they're helping dog meat 'farmers' transition to more humane ways of making a living. They also helped form the Asia Canine Protection Alliance to end the illegal trade of dogs from Thailand, Cambodia and Laos into Vietnam.
By drawing the attention of governments and the public to the cruelty involved in this industry, they will put a stop to the misery these dogs endure. If you are offended by the photo of the dogs in the net, please know that it is the least upsetting image I could find.
