At first, it sounds like a bit of silly idea, but I'm deadly serious about the cause. Refugees and seekers of asylum have fled war and human rights abuses in Syria and elsewhere are seeking safety for their families, and the basic level of certainty that we all take for granted - comfort, food, a roof over our heads and the chance live undevided from our loved ones, to work and contribute as part of our community.
I was aware of this as a serious humanitarian issue, despite the "spin" in the national press, but the news of the destruction of the makeshift camp in Calais where between 300 and 400 unaccompanied children are living was espeicially worrying and painful. I fear for these children.
As a film fan a pile of impulse-bought DVDs to get through "one day", it occured to me that this could be my "marathon" of sorts - I could finally watch them and produce some entertaining reviews so that readers can read and watch along with my progress.
