Story
Please join me in celebrating my 75th birthday by participating in a virtual marathon in support of Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE) as they find a cure for our grandchild, Yasya.
Yasya has been fighting epilepsy for over two years now. At only 12, she’s been in multiple ambulances and ERs, has undergone a wide range of tests, and has tried countless medications. She always liked to refer to herself as “rare” and unfortunately her neurologist says that’s a good word for her - rare and complicated with multiple types of seizures affecting multiple areas of her brain. We are inspired, though, by her positive attitude and drive. Every day she gets up and tries to go to school. In between seizures, she’s a cheerful, artistic, outgoing kid. She hasn’t let her epilepsy stop her; she finds ways to be herself around it. She is an inspiration to all of us to “keep on keepin’ on.” That’s why we want to do this virtual marathon.
Here's how it works:
- Make a donation to CURE of any amount.
- Choose the action you will do in
honor of Yasya (run, walk, swim, bike, summer-saults in the living room, etc.). - Choose the distance you will travel
(Marathon, mile, block and a half, walk to the mailbox, etc.). - Choose the speed at which you will
move (Hour, day, week, month). - Fill in the "Tell us what you are doing and why" box
My goal is my birth year, $1945.00. Jay and I will be walking a marathon , 26.2 miles. Over 26.2 days. We look forward to seeing what you can do. The virtual marathon will run for the month of February. Thank you in advance for helping to encourage this wonderful child.
