Story
On the 23rd July 2022, Harriet, Laura, Melissa and Rachael will be setting out at dawn to hike the Mourne Wall. We are really excited to be completing this challenge to raise funds for the amazing Bowelbabe Fund. This is a fantastic Fund which works with Cancer Research UK to direct funding to research and clinical trials and to raise awareness through projects such as Bowel Cancer UK’s Never Too Young campaign. This cause is very close to our hearts. In September 2018 Laura received a diagnosis of colorectal cancer and serrated polyposis syndrome. She was fortunate to have incredible medical professionals managing her treatment through nine surgeries and twelve rounds of chemotherapy, and unbeatable support from family, friends and colleagues throughout. Two years on from treatment, it's incredibly exciting to be able to do a major endurance challenge like this with such a brilliant and very fun group of girls for such a super cause!
So the challenge…The Mourne Wall was built between 1904 and 1922 in the beautiful, boggy Mourne Mountains of Northern Ireland as a building project to keep livestock from the Silent Valley Reservoir. The 22 miles / 36km hike along the circular wall will take in 15 mountains in the range with a total ascent of c.3,000m / 10,000 ft (Ben Nevis is 1,345m / 4,413 ft). Estimations range from 11 hours to 16 hours to complete the hike, and with it being July in NI we are bracing ourselves for four seasons in one hour, let alone one day!
Thank you so much for all the support - it is so appreciated!
