Story
My Dad died after struggling with dementia (Alzheimer's) for 5 years. My grandma also died from it and several other family members have been affected.
Dementia affects so many families and there is no sign of a cure. The social care system is underfunded and overstretched, GP's can't diagnose dementia in their 8 minute appointments and it takes so long to see a specialist that most families have worked out it is dementia long before they get an official diagnosis. All they are offered are drugs which may or may not slow down the disease. The system regularly lets the patient and family down. This government only care about lining their own pockets therefore it's up to us to support charities like Alzheimer's Society.
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
