Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page, I am raising money for the QEHB Fighting Skin Cancer Fund.
Here's a short version of my story so far. Since 2011 I've had stage 4 Malignant Melanoma Skin Cancer. During this time I've had surgery to remove tumours, been on a drug trial for two years and had a successful brain tumour operation in 2015. For the last three years I've been receiving immunotherapy treatment which so far has thankfully kept my cancer stable.
All my treatment has been at the QEHB and it has been absolutely brilliant! All the staff that I've met over the last seven years have given me a hugely positive feeling and my visits to the hospital have been a pleasure and like all fellow patients that I chat to I feel enormously privileged.
As a thank you gesture in 2015 I managed to raise £6500 by spending five days cycling nearly thirteen up the biggest road climb in Britain to reach the same height as Everest which is 29,029 feet! It was a serious challenge!
For a while I've been eyeing the QEHB main staircase and wondering how many times it would take to climb the stairs to the top reach the height of Everest from sea level? The answer is 230! That's quite a lot of steps.
So on Tuesday 15th May 2018 a Mount Everest Stair Challenge has been organised to support the Fighting Skin Cancer Fund. It is hoped that many skin cancer patients and QEHB staff will work as a team to climb the main staircase until we reach the height of Everest. It is a serious challenge and will take all day.
The event has been timed to coincide with National Skin Cancer Week and there will be an information table situated near the QEHB Charity booth in the main hospital foyer.
I will be there for the day and look forward to meeting lots of people as well as climbing the stairs to the seventh floor as many times as possible.
My personal fundraising target is £1000. Please help me to raise this substantial amount and contribute to making the event a worthwhile success.
