Story
Who The Mountain Goats are and what we're doing:
We are a group of trail runners based in Sheffield who have decided to do something positive with our passion - run to Paris in aid of Calais Food Collective. Setting off from The Shard, London 16/09/2021, we will be running approximately 30km per day, a total of 7 marathons, over 9 days until we reach our destination, The Eiffel Tower, Paris.
From Calais Food Collective:
'What your donation can buy:
£1 is one hot meal.
£3 will provide 4 families with milk for their children.
£5 is enough tinned tomatoes for two days, for a group of twenty-two people.
£10 can buy two boxes of tinned lentils, which provides a group of twelve people with protein for four meals.
£20 will provide 11 people with vegetable oil for a week, this is necessary for cooking any meal!'
About Calais Food Collective:
"We are a grassroots organisation supporting displaced people in Calais and Dunkirk primarily with cooking ingredients, such as rice, onions, beans, and fresh veg, as well as equipment to cook with.
We set up in spring as an emergency response to the pandemic, when other NGOs were forced to suspend services, to ensure people still had access to food. Now, we continue our work distributing ingredients as it gives people greater autonomy in cooking their own food to suit their own tastes, practices and schedules - and is safer during a pandemic. We operate as a freeshop, allowing people to choose and order the food they want, which is different each distribution. We distribute every day across different sites in Calais, and in Dunkirk twice a week, reaching approximately 2,000 people."
About Donate 4 Refugees:
"At Donate4Refugees we know that refugee lives matter. Just as your life and my life matters, right? And so we give our time as unpaid volunteers to raise money and help improve living conditions for refugees in Europe. Could you imagine surviving week after week homeless in a tent? No warm bed, no hot shower, no breakfast to start the day, no blanket when you're cold, or t-shirt to wear when you're warm? No one should have to live without their basic human needs. Their dignity matters. They matter. Join us and let's #ShareASmile."
