We are raising funds for Teignmouth RNLI and for over 20 years now Mount Kelly and previously Kelly College has had an affiliation with Teignmouth RNLI; to date, our Ten Tors teams have helped to raise in excess of £20k for this extremely worthwhile charitable organisation.
The Ten Tors event is held annually on Dartmoor and involves over 400 teams of six teenagers aged between 14 and 19, covering routes of either 35, 45 or 55 miles depending on their age. The routes must be completed in a set time between 7am on the Saturday to 5pm on the Sunday (34 hrs total). The teams must be self sufficient and totally independent and will carry up to a third of their own body weight in their rucksacks including: food, water, clothing and equipment necessary for survival on Dartmoor in all weather conditions. It is not unheard of for it to snow in May!
Those that take part will typically start training as early as September, with the event taking place in late April or early May the following year. The Mount Kelly pupils show an enormous amount of commitment, dedication and courage. Many team members might well have a GCSE exam the morning after completing the event and it is therefore not unusual for them to take exam revision notes with them to get some studying done whilst camping overnight!
More information on the event can be found at http://www.tentors.org.uk/ Thank you for visiting our Just Giving page and a MASSIVE thank you for making a donation. Please check in at this page to follow our training progress between now and 6th May 2016.
Best wishes one and all
