Story
Dear family, friends and colleagues,
I am embarking on a fully self-funded expedition to Kyrgystan with 12 other women, together as a team we are raising funds in support of women survivors of war.
Why and how I am doing this?
When there is an outbreak of war or violence, women suffer most – they experience trauma, sexual violence and the death of loved ones. After the conflict is over, the world’s attention moves on, but women are left to rebuild their families and communities.
Please help reach the expedition’s fundraising goal of $100,000 USD for women survivors of war in Afghanistan and Syria. All funds will channel directly to the Women for Women International (WfWI)– UK, an organisation that works with some of the most marginalised women in the world helping them to transform their lives.
Your contribution will help these women transition from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency.
The WfWI's programs aim to address a woman's needs by investing in her power through many ways. Here are some examples:
Informational training – critical modules that include the value of women’s work, benefits of saving, basic health education, rights and decision making, and group formation
Skill-building – numeracy, business skills, and a chosen vocational skill
Resource provision – includes monthly cash stipends, resources to pursue chosen vocations, referrals to health and legal services, and access to savings groups
Connections to networks – shared support through local women’s networks, global supporters, and fostering connections with other women
Your contributions can make a huge difference! This is how:
56 USD could pay for a tailoring toolkit for a woman who has been trained in the tailoring track, providing her with the equipment needed to set up a business and provide an income for her family.
190 USD could pay for Men’s Engagement training, creating a space for men to explore gender roles and toxic masculinity and understand how families and communities benefit when women are empowered.
310 USD could pay for Social Empowerment training, where women learn about their rights on key issues like voting, access to land, divorce, custody of her children and domestic abuse.
640 USD could pay for ten agriculture toolkits, providing women with the tools and equipment needed to grow agricultural products for food or to generate income.
1230 USD could provide critical psychosocial support to ten women who have experienced unimaginable physical, emotional, and sexual violence.
3,680 USD could pay for Advocacy Training for 15 groups of women, so that they can get involved in decision- making and leadership in their communities.
