Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We're four working mums taking part in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge - ‘The World’s Toughest Row’ - rowing 3,000 miles across the unforgiving Atlantic Ocean. We will put our bodies, minds and souls to the ultimate test by taking on one of the world’s greatest physical and mental challenges. We’re doing this to inspire other women and children, including our own 11 children, to dream big and challenge themselves to achieve their goals, whatever they may be. We want to show that you can achieve anything with the right mindset and that gender shouldn’t be a barrier.
This is a test that will push our team to the very extremes of what humans can accomplish. More people have been to space than completed TWAC. Setting off in December 2021, the journey will take us from San Sebastian, La Gomera, Canary Islands to Nelson’s Dockyard, Antigua and Barbuda. We’ll be rowing for 2 hours followed by 2 hours resting, day and night, for 40+ consecutive days at sea.
We are doing this challenge to raise money for three incredible charities who provide so much vital support to people when they need it most. These charities and people they support are our 'why' - the inspiration that will help us grit our teeth and dig deep when the going gets tough - and it undoubtedly will! Through this page you can donate to Noah's Ark Children's Hospice.
Noah's Ark Children's Hospice helps seriously unwell children and their families make the most of the special time they have together through clinical, practical and emotional support. When Felicity and Lebby visited the hospice earlier this year they heard from an inspirational young man who spent years as a patient of the hospice, and is now looking forward to training to become a doctor. He is one of the very few patients who live to tell their story. 'The Ark' is an incredible facility run by incredible people - dedicated to making the lives of those they care for, and their families, as comfortable and joyful as possible. No stone is left unturned to provide bespoke care for their children and families and create memories they can treasure.
The Felix Fund helps bomb disposal personnel and their families who have suffered as a result of the work they do - helping with welfare initiatives and financial support. This year is their 10th anniversary so there's no better time to highlight the important work that they do. Bomb disposal experts aren't attached to a regiment but work on their own - meaning they miss out on the all camaraderie of military life that is so important on tours abroad. When they come home to the UK, they have to come to terms with what they faced alone, and that's where the Felix Fund steps in. They support people suffering from PTSD and help those who may have lost limbs in the line of duty, as well as providing financial support for families who need it.
Women in Sport There are 721,800 more inactive women than men in England. (Sport England). The charity Women in Sport was founded in 1984, with the goal of giving every woman and girl in the UK the opportunity to experience the transformational rewards of sport . Whilst the tide is starting to turn, there is still a way to go before there is parity in participation and media coverage of women's sport. Women In Sport is the only organisation in the UK that researches sport purely from the perspective of women and girls. They use the insight gained to drive change through campaigns and partnerships. As mums of daughters (and sons), we want to inspire them to get involved in sport so that they too can experience some of the many benefits it has brought to our lives.
We would love all money raised to be distributed equally between our three charities so please do visit our team page to donate to the other two charities.
