Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My Dad ran the London Marathon in 2000 for a charity. I wasn’t born then, but for as long as I can remember I have wanted to better his achievement by running it in a faster time. I have chosen to run the same marathon in 2022, but for a different charity, the MS Society.
The mum of one of my closest friends has recently been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. I hadn’t realised it was so prevalent, but she is the sixth person that my family know who has been affected by this debilitating disease. I can’t imagine how hard it must be to get up in the morning and feel as though parts of your body don’t belong to you, for a walk along a path to seem more like you’re wading through sand, or to know that no matter how active you once were, there is the possibility that the time will come when you are confined to a wheelchair. The thought of this happening to anyone really hits home and has made me even keener to raise money for the MS Society, by running 26.2 miles.
I want to run the London Marathon for my friend’s mum, and the millions of other people who have been affected by this disease in some form or another. Most of all, I want to run it for my friend. It is very hard for a teenager to see one of the most important people in their lives, who is also the fittest person they know, having to give up the sports they love, and gradually becoming less able because of the progress of this horrible disease.
Knowing that the MS Society, which is funding research to tackle multiple sclerosis, and providing support for those who have the disease, will benefit from my efforts, will give me even more motivation to complete this challenge.
