Story
Could hardly move my arms on Tuesday, but was back at the gym on Thursday training with Ian. Mind you we did a fair amount of chatting, it turned into a serious discussion about our next challenge. I seem to remember a long bike ride being mentioned at one point! (jury's out on that at the moment, bikes and I have never really had a good relationship).
Anyway watch this space..... Morgan and Tiplady will be back to race yet again! (Might even drag a few other mad folk along to join us)
WE DID IT in a time of (Drum Roll....) 2:45:06
Was a tad wet and cold, but the crowds kept us motivated. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou Ian my co-pilot, we make an awesome team.
I would also like to say a HUGE thankyou to all that have sponsored us.
Going to have a long soak with lots of bubbles now to ease my aching muscles!
In shock just been informed will have to be leaving home at 5.30am on Sunday morning.... Two sleeps to go!
Bought myself some waterproof gloves - call me a pessimist or just far too practical! Don't fancy cold, soggy hands as this would severly hinder my propelling motion.
Ian is very calm, I want to know his secret!
Got to admit I am beginning to feel a little nervous, just three sleeps to go before getting up at the crack of dawn and heading up to Newcastle to join all the other mad fools that thought running 13.1 miles was a good idea.
After listening to the cheerful weather man, I think I may have to digout some thermals and waterproofs, hope Ian is prepared for all the spray that my wheelchair may generate.
Seven days to go, working out? We decided we needed a change so went ten pin bowling instead. Had a brilliant time, finished last but who cares! Ian used brute force to sling the bowling ball, his technique leaves alot to be desired but it did the job.
On a high at the moment, just had the results from my latest scan, nothing there that should'nt be was how my oncologist described it. So in celebration I have bought myself some new gloves to assist in our bid for victory (reaching the finish line without mishap!), all this friction from training and propelling has started to wear holes in my others.
I cannot believe that it is only two weeks today until the Great North Run - GULP!
Picked up a second wheelchair on Friday that is built more for speed. I was rather concerned that if anything untoward should happen to my wheelchair during the run I would be up a creek without a paddle so I decided to splash out on another wheelchair that I shall use for sport etc.
Ian is looking trim again, he is on a strict diet at the moment as he rather over indulged while away on holiday. We have a gym session tomorrow, we do work hard honestly, although the photos look as if all we do is talk!
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Firstly, to those who know us, yes we agree we are insane!, to those of you who have not met us before then introductions are in order.
My name is Jonathan, I am the handsome 23 year old red head in the photo and the geezer next to me is my good friend Mr Ian Morgan, whom I met just as my life was heading off its planned course, his support and friendship is brilliant.
Three years ago I was diagnosed with brain tumours that just happened to be cancerous, the cancer by this time, had also gone on a sight seeing tour down my spine. Due to an unfortunate late diagnosis and related complications I weighed in at around 4 stone and was advised that my survival rate was about 20%. I completed treatment, radiotherapy and chemotherapy over a year ago and my last scan showed no trace of the cancer, just got to conquer the after effects and get my body back in order now.
Ian and I are training hard, our aim is to complete the run well within 3 hours, Ian is hoping I don't put too much more weight on before the event (10 stone now!) as he may have to push me some of the way as I still tire quickly, I am just hoping I don't get a puncture!
During my seventeen months in hospital, I received support directly and in-directly from a number of charitable organisations, with a little help from my friend I am hoping to raise money for them over a period of time. Ian and I completed the Leeds 10k for Martin House a Childrens Hospice and now we are running on behalf of Candlelighters a Yorkshire based charity dedicated to helping support children with cancer or blood disorders, and their families, whilst at the same time promoting research into childhood cancer.
