Story
Updated now to a memorial page after losing mum on Friday 27th April. We loved you so much mum and will miss you forever. You never complained about pain, never suffered, and always had a smile and a kiss for your family. We loved our "nanna adventures" with the girls, and your love, hour heart, your happiness and compassion. Rest in peace mum.
I'll leave the rest as was as the story is still real and raw.
It's not easy living with Alzheimers. Not so much the sufferer, but the family. They have to deal with the loss of a loved one in front of their eyes. Not in a single action or surprise loss, but in small amounts on a daily basis. We're currently going through this with mum. I'm in great awe of dad as he generally just gets on with it and soldiers on, taking her to day groups etc, and making sure she's fed, watered and happy.
There has been a massive deterioration in mum's condition in the last 6 months, from general confusion to serious issues from time to time. We still have good days, and the recent weekend was a highlight, but we know that with every passing day the light inside glows that little bit dimmer.
This brings me on to the challenge. I did the Half Marathon last year so to repeat the feat would be a little bit 'meh', so i set my sights higher. 1085 metres high to be exact. However - loads of people climb Snowdon daily, so it had to be more of a challenge. When i saw that the run was the following day... that was it. A real challenge.
So I will be scaling the dizzy heights of the tallest peak in Wales on the Saturday (unfortunately missing the royal wedding) and then running 13.1 miles through the centre of Manchester on the Sunday. This will be my greatest challenge, and i do it all for mum and dad. Mum for her plight and to hopefully contribute in some way to finding a cure, or helping those suffering now to cope a little better. And dad, for being that carer, coping through the tough times, and hoping not to go mad or have a stroke in the process.
Please give whatever you can and thanks for reading.
