We fund research and offer support to beat the isolation of macular disease

Story

UPDATE: Things went to plan this Sunday (12 July), and I managed it in 60 mins and 22 seconds.  (I am really annoyed about those 22 seconds...).  Some photos are on this site, for those who require proof. This site stays live for a few more months, so if anyone wants they can donate more, in recognition of a thing few of us thought would happen...

Having previously only run when I thought there was a danger that the canteen was low on chips, I am aware this is probably all a midlife crisis -- but at least I haven't bought a Harley Davidson or run away with my secretary...  (I don't have a secretary to run away with, but you know what I mean).

In a moment of madness, I agreed to run the ASICS British 10K London Run this July for the Macular Disease Society. This charity's aim is to help those affected by macular degeneration, a disease which causes sudden and often severe impairment of vision. Most forms of macular degeneration are not currently treatable. In the forms which can be treated, treatment is only effective if the disease is detected early enough.

The main purpose of the charity is to help people with the disease adjust to a life with little or no sight, enabling them to make the most of any remaining vision. They also promote research into the condition, and so is a very worthwhile cause. Plenty of you will know why I've chosen this charity.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Macular Disease Society gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

All donations, large and small, are very welcome.
