Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We have chosen 2 charities to raise money for.

You are now looking at the Rowcroft Hospice page.

We are also raising money for CLIC Sargent, for which we have another page.

We welcome donations to either of or both of these charities!

Six members of the Moorland District Nursing Team (covering the surgeries of Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, Bovey Tracey and Chudleigh in Devon) are intending to lose enough weight to get ourselves into healthy Body Mass Indexes by the Summer Solstice (June 21st) 2017.

We are: Becky Barnes, Judy Whitmore, Kirsty Crawley, Anna Dunscombe, Nic Shaw and Sue Daughtry.

At the moment, we have a long way to go! We each visit Slimming World once a week and are well on our way, but we want to be realistic and so are giving ourselves 8 months to achieve our goal.

We didn't feel, as health professionals, that we could continue to dish out healthy eating and weight management advice to our patients without addressing our own issues!

We have chosen to raise money for Rowcroft Hospice because they consistently provide a high standard of care to the Moorland patients at the end of their lives. They provide care for our patients either by looking after them as in-patients in their Torquay Hospice OR by providing nurses as part of their Hospice at Home team to help patients die in their own homes with their loved ones. Their clinical nurse specialists also work closely with us to ensure that we manage the patient's symptoms as effectively as possible.

Rowcroft Hospice also run many rich and varied courses for health professionals. These courses educate and inform all the members of our team, ensuring that we provide up to date and high standards of care.

Last year it cost £8.3 million to provide Rowcroft services. As an independent charity, more than 70% of Rowcroft's funding comes from the incredible generosity of local people. We are hoping that this site will help to boost Rowcrofts funding over the next 8 months, at a time when every penny counts.
